Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if hull damage is serious?
Any damage that compromises the waterproof integrity of your hull should be addressed immediately. Signs of serious damage include visible cracks below the waterline, water intrusion, soft spots when pressed, or structural flexing. We offer inspection services to assess damage and recommend appropriate repairs.
Osmotic blistering occurs when water penetrates the gelcoat and reacts with uncured resins in the laminate, creating pressure that forms blisters. It’s particularly common in older fiberglass boats. Treatment involves removing affected material, drying the laminate completely, and applying proper epoxy barrier coats.
Timeline depends on repair extent and weather conditions (for proper curing). Minor gelcoat repairs might be completed in days, while major structural work or osmosis treatment could take several weeks. We’ll provide realistic timelines during our initial assessment.
Minor gelcoat damage can often be successfully repaired with color-matched gelcoat. However, extensive crazing, severe fading, or widespread damage may be better addressed with professional painting for a more uniform, durable finish. We’ll assess your specific situation and recommend the best approach.
